RoLTech

RolTech (Romanian Language Technologies): an INTAS project aiming to acquire electronic resources for Romanian language, to develop corresponding tools for their maintenance and use, and to create applications based on these resources. The project has the following main technical objectives:

    Acquisition of a Web-portal of reusable linguistic resources to be used for language technology (including dictionaries, thesauri, corpora – annotated and raw, as well as symbolic and statistical linguistic data), language technology tools for Romanian (both open source and authored code), and references related to Romanian language (documents, references to external resources or tools, to significant projects and scientific events dedicated to the domain of HLT, titles of books, collections of papers on Romanian language, significant scientific events, etc.).
    Development of thee types of applications:
            -dedicated to the non-Romanian speakers (an adaptable e-learning system for Romanian morphology to be used by English, Romanian and Russian speaking students, with interfaces      and teaching materials in all these languages, with multimedia elements and with possibilities to extend to other languages);
            - dedicated to ordinary Romanian speakers (one application aimed to enhance the search output on collections of Romanian documents as intermediated by existing search engines, by exploiting the morphological variations of words, the other – offering an interactive Romanian spell-checking service over the Web);
            - dedicated to the expert users of Romanian language (a support system for dictionary development intended to assist lexicographers in the creation of dictionaries and lexicons, and the advanced speakers of Romanian for combined search in dictionaries).

    All the resources created during the project lifetime will be permanently integrated into the Web-portal which will be set-up in a prototypical version at the beginning of the project and enhanced till the end of the project and, hopefully, maintained permanently after. A clear Project Management and Dissemination plan will foster the communication strategies between the RoLTech members, will increase the transfer of knowledge and the distribution of the project results.
